Finnish independence goes hand in hand with being a part of an interconnected world. Finland became independent in 1917, during the Great War, and this European conflagration provides the basis for the new composition by Alejandro Viñao. Sampo Haapamäki’s highly virtuosic work Maailmamaa (Global Country) for 16 solo voices and electronics explores the tension between nationalist thinking and the utopia of a monocultural global country.
