Echoes of War

Mon 16 Oct 2017 / 7.30 p.m. / Camerata

Helsingin kamarikuoro / Nils Schweckendiek, conductor

War-themed works by top names in Finnish contemporary music are presented together with exciting new international composers in the Klang series for contemporary music. Antti Auvinen combines fragments from the Dada manifesto with First World War propaganda, while Perttu Haapanen juxtaposes the tragic story of Kullervo from the Kalevala with topics from today. Patiparn Jaikampan from Thailand won the 2nd International Einojuhani Rautavaara Chamber Choir Composition Competition in 2016 and presents a new piece inspired by two poems from the First World War. American composer Eugene Birman brings the choir a new, expanded version of his deeply personal work from the latest Rautavaara composition finals.

Eugene Birman: Lamentations (new version, premiere)
Perttu Haapanen: Kullervo Clusters
Patiparn Jaikampan: Death Could Drop from the Dark (premiere)
Antti Auvinen: Obviously Foreign Infantry (Finnish premiere)
